SPR (Southern Peripheral Road) traffic and its redevelopment by GMDA (Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority)

Redevelopment of SPR (Southern Peripheral Road) by GMDA is a step to make commuters life much easier. Until now people using Southern Peripheral Road face a lot of traffic while they are travelling to their destinations. GMDA identified four major bottlenecks on the Seven kilometer stretch. They are working on to build flyovers, underpasses and separate local vehicles from intercity traffic.

The Redevelopment of the Southern Peripheral Road is part of the bigger plan to decongest the major city roads which have huge traffic jams even when they are thirty to Sixty meters wide. The GMDA is working on to develop a plan to decongest seven kilometer pain area from the twelve kilometer SPR from Ghata Village till Vatika Chok on Sohna Road. The plan includes widening the roads and building flyovers and underpasses or both at the four major intersections. As per the per the experts the four major bottlenecks are at Sector 55-56 T- Point near Ghata Village, the crossing near Hongkong Mall at Sector 61- 62 junction, The Tigra crossing near Sector 64- 65 intersection and the crossing where Samrat Mihir Bhoj Marg cuts the SPR near Sector 49- 50 cuts the intersection. The SPR helps people in commuting towards Faridabad, Sohna and Manesar from Gurugram and the traffic volume has increased since last few years. It also helps people from nearby villages like Ghata, Tigra, Ullahawas, Badshahpur and Behrampur. 

The GMDA is working along with MCG (Municipal Corporation of Gurugram) is redeveloping the SPR and they are also working towards identifying the other choke points of the city, post which they will cover those roads with thick traffic and try to make the life of commuters and easier and stress free.
